How old do you have to be to fly alone?
The minimum age for children to fly alone depends on the airline's policy. With some airlines on domestic flights, kids have to be 12 years old to fly, and where some of the airlines allow kids 13, 14, or 15 years old. For international flights, age limits also vary by airline, and some airlines don't allow unaccompanied minors on international flights.
Can children under five travel as unaccompanied minors?
For many other reasons, flying with the children is difficult even if it is in better condition too. Kids who are younger than 5 years old cannot travel as unaccompanied minors.
Children between 5 years old and to minimum adult age decided by the chosen airlines, provide special unaccompanied minor services for a fee.
Only Allegiant and Frontier airlines do not provide unaccompanied minors the option to fly. A few of the airlines allow unaccompanied minor services, for kids over the minimum adult age, which can be a better option for families who is worried about teenagers traveling alone.
Unaccompanied minor services and fees
The airline controls and supervises a single unaccompanied minor from boarding the aircraft to the arrival phase of the journey. Unaccompanied minors are required to deliver by the adult to the airlines with proper documentation and picked up at the arrival of the other documented adults.
Most airlines avoid unaccompanied minors booking on the last flight of the day or the flight disrupted by others reasons. Code-shared flights are also not allowed to take unaccompanied minor bookings. Most airlines take unaccompanied minor service to nonstop or direct flights. Such airlines Alaska Airlines, Delta Airlines, and American Airlines allow unaccompanied minor booking on some connecting for the eight and older kid’s ages, with various schedule and route limitations.
